Drama Program wins Multiple Honors at Globe Awards

The San Antonio College drama program swept the Alamo Theatre Arts Council Globe awards winning in almost every category for the play The Heiress.

The Globe Awards, held at the Woodlawn Theatre in November, recognized local drama productions for the years 2019-2020 and 2020-2021. 

The drama program staged The Heiress in February 2020. Set in New York City in the 1850s, it is the story of Catherine Soper, a wealthy but plain-looking woman who is caught between her grief-stricken father and a mysterious, handsome suiter. The play is based on the novel Washington Square by Henry James.

Former theater coordinator Ronald Watson received four awards, including Excellence in Direction of a Drama. He shared an award with Nathan Thurman, technical director for the theater program, for Excellence in Production of a Drama. Watson retired from SAC in February 2021.

In addition to sharing an award with Watson, Thurman won Excellence in Lighting Design for a Play for The Heiress and a second award for Lighting Design for a Musical for A Christmas Carol at the Woodlawn Theater.

SAC students Forrest Fraley, Leah Ingram, and Saphire Mendez were also honored for their acting.
